Google Anti Fur Campaign FurSense - a campaign against fur adverts on Google AdSense

Did you know that Google profits massively from the skin trade of animals that have been killed for their fur in the most gruesome ways imaginable?

models anti fur

Google offers a great service called Google AdSense which allows websites, small and large, to have easy access to adverts which Google determines by looking for keywords on the web page where the advert appears. So far so good...

We, at Lifeofamodel.com, were shocked when we saw fur adverts on our Anti Fur & "Fashion models against fur coats" pages. We tried banning the individual fur traders (see our Against fur traders page), but the list is never ending so we decided to go for the source!

FurSense - the campaign against Google fur adverts

On 2 December 2006 we sent the following (polite) email to Google's AdSense, press and investor relations departments:

We have had two responses so far:

I understand and appreciate your concern regarding fur products and cruelty to animals. I've asked our AdWords team to look at the information you've sent us. I appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your concerns. This helps us maintain the quality of the AdWords network. - Charlie from the Google Adsense Team

Thank you for contacting Google to express your concerns regarding advertisements for fur products on Google. The Google advertising program is managed by a set of policies which we develop based on several factors, including user and customer experience and legal considerations. We review our policies regularly and make changes to keep them current and effective. Our goal is to have policies that are fair, consistent, and adaptable. Thank you for your interest in this issue and sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback is important and helpful to us as we work to keep our policies effective and fair. - Diana Adair from Google's Global Communications and Public Affairs

How can you support FurSense and stop Google from advertising fur?

In order for this campaign to be succesful, we need your support! Here are a few suggestions of what you can do to help!

Write to Google - you can find their contact details and the Google office nearest to you here: http://www.google.com/contact/
Email Google We currently have email addresses for the following Google reps:
Diana Adair (Global Communications and Public Affairs) dianaa@google.com,
adsense-support@google.com,
press@google.com

Do you know anyone who works for Google? Let us know and we will write to them! Just email us at FurSense@lifeofamodel.com or simply post their details below!
Write to your local newspaper! The more negative publicity Google attracts by advertising fur, the more likely they are to pull the plug on fur traders!

To Charles from England
You are the VERMIN!!! Its not just a few mink they are killing, dogs and cats are skinned alive by the thousands. If we did not have vermin like you buying dead animals, we would not have to hear about innocent animals being tortured to make a buck. It just makes me sad to know there are so many of you non-humans out there who care so little. Its the year 2009, we have so many alternatives, why use real fur. God gave the animals fur for warmth, not to have it pulled off of them to make a buck. Real fur is dead and the person who wears fur is dead inside, no heart working there. Remember you will meet your maker someday! What will you say to him; that you turned your back on screaming, starved, abused animals. Dogs and ca**hould be warm, loved and taken care of; not on our backs, in our boots or jackets. Shame on you, for all time, shame on you. Oh, I would like to see you and the other non-humans take the skin off of a live brown bear. Only weak men wear fur!!!!! One more thing--HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE SKINNED ALIVE???

No I do not eat meat or wear leather so I have every right to complain about people wearing fur. It is not simply a case of an animal being put down and having its skin used to make you feel like a celebrity - some of them are skinned alive or killed in the most inhumane, horrific ways. I can't believe human beings have so little compassion.

i work in the fashion industry and i am fond of wearing fur. it is a luxury and has been worn for thousands of years! by women and men. if you can afford it then wear it. yes its cruel and unsanitary but as long as humans remain at the top of the food chain, they will continue to wear fur. the majority of worn fur is mainly, mink, rabbit, and other small mammals... which lets face are just vermin. they have no actual point in our planet. yes they are cute but come on so are lambs and calves! but you still eat those.
and for all of you 'anti fur' protesters, before you post your commets, think, do you still eat meat...? wear leather shoes? carry leather bags, purses and wallets? if yes then you have right to open up a discussion about fur!
