ANTM 8 - Plus size models and more...
First off, I understand the interest of using plus size models to get extra viewers and of course to boost the ratings. In other seasons, there was some form of larger sized girl on the show, but let's be honest here, they always leave early in the show, and in the real fashion world, plus size models have a more limited use for print work, as well as on the runway in comparison to the thinner models. I do not see either of the two plus size girls making it past round four or five. This is not meant to disrespect them or to be mean to them, as they will fit their demographic very well. However, unless the two plus size girls make it to the end where ANTM 8 can have them walk in a plus size fashion show, they just won't make it. Especially, since I cannot see any designer waiting until the final week to see if he/she has to make specially designed clothes for the bigger girl who made it to the final. Nope, the size 0 and 2 girls will make it to the end as usual.
On to who's my pick for the finals. Well, without really seeing any real pictures yet, one of my favs is Renee. A classic look that I believe can be worked for both fashion as well as commercial. If she can handle staying away from her kid/s for a prolonged period of time, then she's a fav for the final. Along side of her in the final I like Natasha. She has great features lots of hair and those gorgeous full lips. Plus, she can talk very well with them. With the popularity of European girls in NY, I can easily see her making her way to the end. Another strong choice is Brittany. She has a very beautiful and workable face that many a designers as well as makeup companies can work with. Dionne is another strong possible to make it to at least the semi finals. She could be replaced with Felicia, but only if she steps up her game and comes out of her quiet girl shell. If neither makes it in, my next bet would be for Jaslene. However, if she and Kathleen get to far into the "It's all about me" attitude, neither will make very far at all. However, I can see ANTM 8 keeping these two on the show for nothing else but drama. And last but not least, there is Sarah the high fashion model who is tall and thin with a great look that is perfectly at home on the runways across the world. However, with all the negative publicity going on about thin girls on the runway, I fear for her to be pushed out earlier than need be to keep the big girls on longer for the ever so great ratings.
My predictions for an early out... For starters, Samantha, the "model wanna be" who cut out the cute poses when she was a kid. I just don't see a strong enough look to impress the judges every week. Unless she can really work the camera and turn those poses into her own style, then I can see her leaving early. Especially if she has to pose nude...I hope she cut out some naked pics as well. Same goes for Cassandra. I Just don’t see enough there. If she doesn't have a big bag of tricks for the camera, then well, she just seems like show filler to me. Jael has a cool look and should photograph well. But do we really need another "rock n Roll" chick on the show? Didn't we have enough of that with Megg from last season??? And, have you heard her talk...No way is she usable for any speaking roles, at least not yet. Say goodbye reasonably early or at least when the TV commercials come around.
There you have it, that's my early picks for the new season. With all the hype of having two plus size girls and all the bad rep on the thin girls lately, I can unfortunately see a few girls leaving earlier than need be. I also feel bad for the two girls who could and should have been in the plus size girls slots and had a real chance of making it to the final. This however is television, so expect to see the drama girls and the plus size girls to stay a little longer than they should to boost the ratings....Which as we all know, is business as usual at ANTM 8.

I believe in my heart from cycle 8, Natasha had everything to be a TOP Model. She was so striking and beautiful. Yes she can sell cars. She can sell anything. She was not fake and she didn't talk behind the other girls backs. She was amazing. I hope and pray another modeling agency will pick her up. She might be Russian, but it is what the American girls and international need to see. See her. She is beautiful and truly a model | |
